Complementary Cancer CareStatisticsNewsletter IndexThe possibility of having cancer is extremely frightening. Whether you, your family member, or your friends, have been diagnosed, fear is often the first reaction. 45% of American men and 38% of American women, will be diagnosed with some form of cancer in their lifetime. This high incidence of cancer explains our fears. Cancer developmentCancer stems from multiple factors and usually develops over a long period of time. People develop cancerous cells in their body everyday. Those able to remove these cells avoid progressing to a cancer diagnosis. The factors contributing to the development of cancer include:
The immune system is responsible for identifying and removing all cancerous cells. If the immune system fails to identify the cells or can not keep up with the production of cancerous cells, cancer forms. Immune SystemMultiple factors may contribute to a sub-functioning immune system including stress, sub-acute viral infections, poor sleep, and poor nutrition. Many natural substances support immune function including vitamin C, Astragalus herb, Echinacea herb, and bioflavonoids. Indications of a tired immune system include frequent colds and flus, multiple herpes breakouts, and chronic infections. Normally cells routinely repair DNA damage. If unable to do so they trigger the self-destruct button to prevent replication of a damaged cell. When these safety mechanisms function improperly, damaged, cancerous cells reproduce and pass on the faulty DNA code to the next generations of cells. Mental/ Emotional ComponentThe majority of individuals with cancer have had a traumatic event within 5 years of the diagnosis. Suppressed emotional traumas clearly contribute to the formation of cancer. These traumas must be addressed in order for complete healing to occur. A healthy immune system, an intact cellular self-monitoring system, and a healthy emotional state, are all required to prevent cancer formation. Proper sleep, diet, exercise, and a healthy emotional outlook contribute to overall health and cancer prevention. Natural therapies improve immune system function, prevent future DNA mutations, and enhance the efficacy of allopathic treatments (chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery) and reduce side effects.
