Spring: A Time for New Growth

Happy Spring to all of you. I hope that the lettuce seed packets I gave out provide an abundant source of good greens over the next few months. I love the bright green of new leaves and the bright pastels of early spring flowers. The energy of spring brings in a sense of vitality, growth, and rebirth. This energy is carrying me and The Healing Way to a new place and configuration.

Clinic Merge with Biologic Integrative Health

I am pleased to announce that The Healing Way will be merging with Biologic Integrative Healthcare (BIH) as of June 15th, 2008. As many of you may know, Dr. Samantha Eagle recently joined the Brattleboro community of Naturopathic Physicians. Dr. Eagle brings her expertise in treating chronic pain conditions and Naturopathic pediatrics to Brattleboro. I am excited to work with Dr. Eagle with whom I share a similar vision of Naturopathic healthcare.

Due to the new insurance coverage and increased requirements of running a practice, we decided to pool our resources, allowing us to provide the best possible care to our patients. This merge with BIH provides you, my patients, with access to a receptionist who will take and fill supplement orders, schedule appointments, and answer questions. In addition, we will have a billing person to handle insurance questions. The presence of these individuals will increase my available hours for patient visits and care. I am excited about being able to focus on patient care while leaving the administrative work to our support staff.

I will begin seeing patients at the new office located in the Merchant's Bank building at 205 Main St., Suite 4 on the second floor at the beginning of July. We will let you know which office to go to when you make your appointment. The phone numbers for the clinic are 802-254-4369 and 802-275-4732. We will be having an open house on Friday July 11th during Gallery Walk. Please stop by.

In addition, Dr. Eagle will be opening The Biologic Center on Flat Street in the near future. This dynamic mixed-use building will showplace the principles of a healthy environment, constructed with non-toxic, earth friendly materials. This means another, and final move, soon. But I'm looking forward to working in this integrative community building.

Important changes in office operations

With the transition and availability of reception, I will no longer be accepting email communications. All clinic communications will need to be done through the receptionist at the above numbers. For those who prefer emailing supplement and appointment requests, you may use info@biologichealthcare.com beginning July 1, 2008. Those with hearing and/or vocal impairments may use the above email for all questions and concerns.

My appointment hours will expand to Tuesday 10am-6pm, Wednesday 10am-6pm, Thursdays 9am-6pm, and Friday 9am-5pm. The office will be open Monday through Wednesday and Fridays from 10am to 5pm for scheduling and supplement pick up. This should allow greater ease for supplement purchase and especially pick up. We will continue to provide a box for after-hours pick up.

We will continue to ship supplements to our long distance patients. However, we will need a new Credit Card Agreement filled out and sent to the office. Please click the link below for a copy of the agreement.

Insurance

Both Dr. Eagle and I will continue to participate in the same insurance plans including: BCBS of VT, CIGNA, CBA, MVP, Catamount, and very soon VHAP and Dr. Dynasaur. We are waiting on VT Medicaid to process our applications for VHAP and Dr. Dynasaur. We'll let you know as soon as things go through.

Vermont State Medicaid will soon be processing Naturopath applications to accept Naturopaths as certified providers. Though it may take a few weeks before we're officially certified, this marks an incredible acheivement for all of our hard work.

Transition

Dr. Eagle and I are working hard to ensure a smooth and seamless transition. Please let us know if we may do anything to assist you during and after the transition. I'm confident this merge will improve your healthcare experience many-fold. Wait until you see the view from the new office!

Breast Cancer Prevention Community Program

The Susan Komen Grant Foundation recently awarded Brattleboro Memorial Hospital Comprehensive Breast Care Program an award to support the development of a Resource Room and a study examining the effects of yoga and nutrition counseling and supplementation on women’s recovery from breast cancer treatments. We started the study/community program Thursday May 29th, 2008. The program combines the efforts and expertise of Dr. Mary Chamberlin, oncologist, Agnes Mikijaniec, nurse practitioner oncology, Gloria Solar, registered nurse and breast care coordinator, Sandy Curry, yoga instructor, and myself.

I will be providing the Naturopathic Care to the study participants over the next year including a supplement regimen made possible in part by Vital Nutrients. I am grateful and excited to be a part of this program. We will be monitoring the impact of the "alternative" approach on basic health markers, sense of well-being, and improvement in activities of daily living.

If you know anyone diagnosed in the last year with breast cancer who may be interested in participating in this program, please have them call Gloria Solar at 802-251-8437.
